Please note that Carnival de Cuba is not taking place in London in 2009 but is expected to return in 2010.
The Carnival de Cuba returns to London for 2010 with a huge showcase of live music, dance, workshops and more, exploding onto the capital after an absence in 2009.
A Latin explosion
London will be alive with Latin spirit in Carnival de Cuba, buzzing with vibrancy, energy and colour. Previous years' festivals have included a selection of world class Cuban music, with live performances from leading Cuban music acts. Visitors have also been able to sample Cuban cigars, tropical cocktails and authentic coffees, all of which added up to a complete Latin experience in London.
Musical highlights at Carnival de Cuba
Live acts that performed at Carnival de Cuba in the past include contemporary favourites La Charanga Habanera as well as the reggaeton superstar Eminencia Clasica. In addition there was also a huge reggaeton showcase with the likes of Kid Afrika, Leximan and Papo Record, along with Osvaldo Chacon y su Timba, and the hot new Cuban band Tumbao Tivoli.
Family fun at Carnival de Cuba
Carnival workshops also traditionally take place throughout the Carnival de Cuba, offering kids the chance to get hands on with Cuban culture. Traditional Latin food and drink has also been available, including tropical smoothies.
Out of Africa
Themes in the past for Carnival de Cuba have included a celebration of its African roots with food and fashion, music and dancing taking on an African flavour. Visitors have been able to see how well they can play the Djembe drums, have danced like mad at the Yoruba classes, and taken a stroll around the African market which sold authentic food, clothing, accessories and crafts.
Conga Procession
A huge Conga procession was also led by Guillermo Davis, with local schoolkids joining in the fun.
The Carnival de Cuba will be taking place in London in 2010. The exact festival dates and location are still to be confirmed. Carnival de Cuba is free to attend.
