The Carnival de Cuba returns to London for 2008 with a huge showcase of live music, dance, workshops and more, exploding on to Southwark Park in June.
A Latin explosionLondon will be alive with Latin spirit in Carnival de Cuba, buzzing with vibrancy, energy and colour. This year’s festival includes a selection of world class Cuban music, with live performances from leading Cuban music acts. Visitors can also sample Cuban cigars, tropical cocktails and authentic coffees, promising a complete Latin experience in London.
Musical highlights at Carnival de CubaLive acts performing at the Carnival de Cuba 2008 include contemporary favourites La Charanga Habanera as well as the reggaeton superstar Eminencia Clasica. In addition there was also a huge reggaeton showcase with the likes of Kid Afrika, Leximan and Papo Record, along with Osvaldo Chacon y su Timba, and the hot new Cuban band Tumbao Tivoli.
Family fun at Carnival de CubaCarnival workshops will be taking place throughout the Carnival de Cuba, offering kids the chance to get hands on with Cuban culture. Traditional Latin food and drink will also be available, including tropical smoothies.
Out of Africa2008 sees the Carnival de Cuba celebrate it's African roots with food and fashion, music and dancing taking on an African flabour. See how well you can play the Djembe drums, dance like mad with the Yoruba classes, and take a stroll around the African market selling authentic food, clothing, accessories and crafts.
Conga ProcessionA huge Conga procession led by Guillermo Davis will also take place, with local schoolkids joining in the fun.
The Carnival de Cuba takes place at Southwark Park from Saturday 28th June – Sunday 29th June 2008. The festival starts at 12pm on both days, and ends at 8pm on Saturday 28th, and at 7pm on Sunday 29th June. Carnival de Cuba is free to attend.
