Carnival de Cuba London Festival
The Carnival de Cuba London Festival is expected to return to London in 2010 for another huge showcase of live music, dance, workshops and more.
A Latin explosionLondon will be alive with Latin spirit in Carnival de Cuba, buzzing with vibrancy, energy and colour. In previous years the festival has included a selection of world class Cuban music, with live performances from some leading Cuban music performers. Visitors have also been able to sample Cuban cigars, tropical cocktails and authentic coffees which helped to create a complete Latin experience in London.
Musical highlights at Carnival de CubaIn the past, live acts that have performed at the Carnival de Cuba included internationally renowned La Charanga Habanera as well as the island's reggaeton sensation Eminencia Clasica. In addition there was also a huge reggaeton showcase with the likes of the Kid Afrika, Leximan and hot new Cuban band Tumbao Tivoli all playing.
Family fun at Carnival de CubaCarnival workshops traditionally take place throughout the Carnival de Cuba London festival, offering kids the chance to get hands on with Cuban culture. Traditional Latin food and drink has always previously been available, including tropical smoothies, so expect something similar in 2010.
Out of AfricaThe theme for the Carnival de Cuba chnages every year and in the past have included a celebration of Cuba's roots in Africa. Visitors have also been able to try their hands at Djembe drumming workshops, Yoruba dance classes inbetween browsing the vibrant market stalls selling art, food, fashion and accessories to brighten up the summer. Although full details of the 2010 theme are yet to be confirmed, it promises to be something suitably fun once again.
Conga ProcessionThe event is also much loved for its huge Conga procession led by Guillermo Davis, with local schoolkids joining in the fun. There are always flamboyant colours, explosive rhythms and a whole load of dancing fun.
The Carnival de Cuba London Festival is due to take place in London in 2010, but the exact dates and location are still to be confirmed.
