Carousel Horses at Bank of England
When
Monday 21st December 2009
Where
Outside Bank of England
See a unique arts installation in the form of twelve carousel horses at Bank of England in the run up to Christmas, when Southend based artist Laura Keeble presents her ironic interpretation on 2009's turbulent economy.
Street art
Appearing in the early hours of the morning, the twelve carousel horses at Bank of England are decorated with past issues of the Financial Times, lights and garlands made from replicated international bank notes. The horses will be mounted on golden poles and will circle the area around the Bank of England at the heart of London's financial district.
Fleeting show
Definitely one of the more unusual street displays that can be seen over the festive season, the carousel horses at Bank of England will be installed on their golden poles for a limited and undisclosed amount of time, so show up early on the day if you want to take a look for yourself. Titled Money Makes the Merry-Go-Round, the arts installation is produced in partnership with Andipa Gallery and comes in the wake of Alistair Darling's announcement of a 50 percent super tax on City bonuses.
Laura Keeble
Intended to reflect the ups and downs of the world ecomony of late and the public image of the City as a financial playground, the carousel horses at Bank of England are the latest creation from satirical artist Laura Keeble. Previous works have included Forgotten Something?, the sardonic replica of the diamond skull by Damien Hirst, which was left amongst rubbish outside the White Cube Gallery. A solo exhibition by Laura Keeble is due to take place at Andipa Gallery later on in 2010.
The twelve carousel horses at Bank of England are on show from Monday 21st December 2009, for an undisclosed amount of time. The installation is expected to be open from around 8am, and is free to attend.
The exhibition takes place outside the Bank of England. Nearest tube station: Bank.
