Mark Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank by watching four films that cast new light on China and Chinese cultural and history.

Year of the Dragon
With four Chinese films being screened to mark the start of the Year of the Dragon, fans of world cinema will have plenty to celebrate for Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank. The Chinese New Year screenings begin on 4th February with Confucius, a biopic of the legendary Chinese philosopher who lived during the Zhou Dynasty. The film stars Chow Yun-Fat in the title role.

Chinese films
Other film screenings taking place for Chinese New Year at BFI Southbank include A Simple Life, a moving story which tackles the theme of growing old, as well as Unseen China, a series of documentaries that shed light on modern day Chinese society. The final film is a seniors' free matinee screening of Woman Basketball PLayer No. 5, which caused a huge stir when it was first released in 1957.
