The Chorus Festival at Southbank Centre in May celebrates the power of the human voice for making music. With plenty of different styles, genres and approaches to singing, the Chorus Festival is the perfect event for those that love the art of song.

Jazz, be bop, world music, beatboxing and karaoke are just a few of the things you can expect over the course of the Chorus Festival. For those that love madrigals there is the performance by The Sixteen, if huge classical choral works are your thing, then head for the Bach choir and if you simply want to improve your own singing, then there are the choral club practise sessions.

Bringing together a huge variety of choirs and choral events, the Chorus Festival is a brand new musical event that aims to get everyone singing. Having launched the Voicelab choir back in February 2007, the Southbank Centre will also be joining in with it's own choral celebrations.

Can't sing a note? Why not try the Vocal Beatbox Orchestra Workshop on Saturday 17th May as Artist in Residence Shlomo teaches you how to beatbox. Following the afternoon workshop, Shlomo will then be conducting the World's Largest Beatbox Choir in a special performance later that day. So if you fancy performing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, alongside the Swingle Singers, you had better get warmed up.

There are several other major highlights in this interactive musical festival including the world premiere of the Songs of the Coromandel Coast by Indian based composer Chris Williams, the BBC Choir of the Year Showcase which includes past winners and finalists from the Choir of the Year, and the closing performance from the Fron Male Voice Choir, who will delight the audience with their astonishing range and ability.

A fantastic line up and the chance to participate in the sheer joy of singing, make the Chorus Festival the perfect way to celebrate the musicality of the human voice. For a full list of events or to book tickets for any of the events in the Chorus Festival programme, click on the link below.
