Have a taste of the past this Christmas at Geffrye Museum as both kids and adults are invited to particpate in a range of delightful activities. Experience the festive season from 1600 to the present day, as you see the changes in the ways that Christmas has been celebrated over the years.

Christmas past
All the rooms in the Geffrye Museum are decked out in the style of Christmas from the period they represent, from Jacobean and Stuart to Restoration, Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian, kids and families will be delighted and intrigued to see how houses were decorated in the old days, and how the advent of Santa or St Nick has changed our views.

Festive activities
Christmas at Geffrye Museum also sees a whole range of exciting festive events take place at the museum. For adults there are Christmas card and greenery decorations workshops, where you can create your own contemporary cards for friends and family, or make delightful decorations from traditional holly and ivy. Enjoy talks on an Victorian Christmas cards, or hear a carol concert by candlelight, there is plenty of festive fun to be had.

Fun for kids
Kids can get up to just as many Christmassy activities with a chance to make mini Christmas trees and Christmas cards and hear some fabulous mid winter tales. Older children and families are invited to find their Christmas spirit at a special concert by candlelight.

Twelfth Night celebrations
To finish off the seasonal celebrations, families are invited to join in the Twelfth Night party in the Geffrye Museum garden. Festivities include the burning of the holly and the ivy stories about Epiphany, carol singing and a taste of mulled wine and Twelfth Night cake.
