Christmas Lights at Leadenhall Market
When
5.30pm, Friday 19th November 2010
Where
Leadenhall Market
Join the Lord Mayor of the City of London as he switches on the Leadenhall Market Christmas lights. There’ll be food, wine, entertainment and plenty of Christmas cheer.
Lighting up
Cheer on the Lord Mayor in one of his most enjoyable official London duties – turning on the Christmas lights. This year Leadenhall Market will be suitably seasonal with ornaments, decorations and a huge Christmas tree sure to get you into the festive spirit.
Eat, drink and be merry
It’s not Christmas without loads of food, and the switch-on for the Christmas lights at Leadenhall Market is no different. There’ll be the usual mulled wine and minced pies, and if that’s not enough the market’s pubs and
restaurants will be open for some proper
feasting.
Christmas tunes
This year a range of talented performers will be adding to the atmosphere by supplying some fitting music. In the run up to the switching on of the Christmas lights, there'll be live music every lunchtime from Monday 15th November - Friday 19th November to kickstart the festive season and get everyone feeling Christmassy.
History of the market
The Leadenhall Market has been a London meeting place since the 14th century, when it was used to sell poultry and cheese. It has been through many forms since then, but an extensive restoration in 1991 turned it into the Victorian themed structure it is today and a must-see destination for Londoners and tourists alike.
The Christmas lights at Leadenhall Market will be turned on at 5.30pm, Friday 19th November 2010 at the Leadenhall Market off Gracechurch Street, EC3. The entertainment runs from 5pm. Nearest tube: Bank. Admission is free but places are limited so try to arrive early.
