This year's City of London Festival is as packed with diverse musical events as ever. Enjoy live music from the best performers in the world.
Live music in the CityWith a wealth of musical styles ranging from jazz and world music to classical and baroque, performed by some of the world’s leading artists, it’s a true highlight on the international music calendar.
City of London Festival 2009This year the festival looks at the creative links between the City of London and other trading cities 60 degrees north, with the theme of the festival being environmental and economic sustainability. To that end there will be performances from the likes of the renowned Choir of King's College Cambridge playing music by John Harle, Christian Lindberg and the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and a much-anticipated performance by London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev, as well as massed choruses from around the world.
Festival highlightsAmongst the musical events taking place throughout the City of London Festival 2009, there are several other art forms joining in with the celebrations. Listen to new poetry by Andrew Motion, see premieres by the English National Ballet, and watch as 1000 young Londoners take part in the Art of Recycling opening procession on 20th June.
St Pauls CathedralAsides from being the most historically significant building in the area, St Pauls plays host to several events in this year's City of London Festival. You can attend an evening of live music and performance from the English National Ballet and Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek with the Hilliard Ensemble on 30th June, and also listen to the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev on 9th July.
International talentAlso appearing at the 2009 festival are a number of talented musicians from places with a latitude of 60 degrees north, including the Swedish trombonist, conducter and composer Christian Lindberg and his Nordic Chamber Orchestra at the Guidhall Great Hall on 1st July. Other places represented include Orkney, Helsinki, Tallinn and St Petersburg.
The City of London Festival takes place from Friday 19th June - Thursday 9th July 2009 at venues including St Paul's Cathedral, Southwark Cathdral, and Guidhall Great Hall.
