Bringing music, colour and dance to the streets of the Square Mile, the City of London Festival Procession sees a thousand young people take part in a vibrant community project.

Street procession
Taking the form of a carnival parade as it winds its way around the Square Mile, the City of London Festival Procession is one of the highlight events of the 2011 City of London Festival. This year, the procession has been inspired by the culture of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and features colourful costumes and sculptures made from recycled materials.

Maori culture
To mark the Oceana: Voyages and Discoveries theme, the City of London Festival Procession also includes members of the Maori community who will be celebrating their culture with an array of props, from miniature war canoes to musical instruments. The procession leaves Guildhall Yard at around 12.45pm and winds its way along Cheapside, Paternoster Square and the west steps of St Paul's Cathedral.

Live music
As the end of the City of London Festival Procession, a thousand children will congregate at the churchyard to give a live concert featuring music from the South Pacific. A traditional Haka will also be performed in Paternoster Square.

The City of London Festival Procession starts at Guildhall Yard at 12.45pm, Friday 1st July 2011. Admission is free.
