Take the kids to the Clapham Common funfair this half term for some traditional fairground fun.
Traditional funfair
Taking over the south side of the common by South Circular Road, the Clapham Common funfair promises a day of fun for all ages during the half term school holidays. The fair's roots can be traced all the way back to the 15th century, when fairground folk would entertain the troops training on the common, so you know that you'll be taking part in a grand tradition by visiting the common.
Fairground rides
Visitors to George Irvin's Funfair can expect to find a variety of rides and attractions, to white knuckle rides such as the waltzer to fairground rides suitable for younger children, such as the merry-go-round and the dodgems. The Clapham Common funfair also includes an array of stalls and games that are bound to be popular with families, such as the coconut shy, hook-a-duck and the hall of mirrors.
City-wide tour
After the Clapham Common funfair, George Irvin's Funfair will be popping up at various spots across London throughout the year. There's the Spring Fair at Crystal Palace in March, followed by the St Patrick's Day fair in Roundwood Park. The fair then makes a welcome return to Clapham Common, just in time for Easter.
The Clapham Common funfair takes place from 12pm - 10pm daily, Saturday 11th February - Sunday 19th February 2012. Admission is £1.00.
