The Colosseum is worlds apart from the glossy wine bars and clubs of the West End. Loud music, grungy decor, a variety of theme nights and a diverse clientele make this venue an unpredictable, yet exciting, choice.

The Venue
The club lies on a busy main road near Vauxhall tube station. Entry is fairly easy if you are on a guestlist, and the dress code is pretty relaxed.

There are various rooms at The Colosseum that play a range of music to suit different tastes. The tiled floor, dark lighting, concrete balconies, wooden stages and floors, and grungy artwork on the walls makes the club look very indie. It will also feel familiar if you have been to any of the local clubs in the popular sunshine-and-party destinations abroad.

The Atmosphere
The casual dress code at The Colosseum adds to the relaxed party mood; enhanced by the booming music. The clientele changes with the theme – having a Nepalese event in one room and salsa in another on the same night can attract a wide range of clubbers intent on partying without the same glamour and pretentiousness that goes on in more upmarket venues. The staff are, in turn, more laid back in their service, although the security is just as tight as those in the West End. The frequent use of smoky dry ice adds to the student union aura of the place.

The Music The music at The Colosseum is very eclectic and often non-commercial, and you should check what’s on before setting out so you know what to expect. Generally speaking, the music is belted out with gusto by the DJ, so expect to be swept up into the booming baselines and the enthusiasm of your fellow clubbers, most of whom will have journeyed there especially.

The drink
A generic choice of beers, lagers, wines and spirits are on offer; nothing too fancy, just your basic range of good, plain alcoholic beverages. Prices are average for this type of club.

The Last Word
The Colosseum is the place to go if you like your clubbing to be purely and simply about the music and the partying. Do not go there if you prefer the more glamorous, upmarket hangouts, if you go out to be noticed, or if your thing is sitting in sumptuous surroundings sipping expensive cocktails and chatting to your friends.
