A coffee cup exhibition London event takes place throughout July at one of the city's most popular pizza and pasta places, Strada. Celebrating the 10th birthday of Strada and the 20th birthday of the Illy designed coffee cup that is used in 50,000 restaurants and cafes around the world, Strada in Brunswick Centre is marking the occassion with a stunning display of decorated cups.

Coffee cup exhibition
Inspired by Ernesto Illy back in 1990, the illy espresso coffee cup has become an iconic piece of crockery, used around the world to serve strong hits of caffiene after dinner or as a pick me up during the day. Having commissioned Matteo Thun to redesign the cup to stand alone as a work of art as well as serving a practical purpose, Mr Illy is now celebrating his co-creation with a coffee cup exhibition in London.

Famous names
Featuring 286 espresso cups, the coffee cup exhibition at Strada is taken from the illy Art Collection, which is made up from cups decorated by some of the best known artists in the world. More likely to be seen in major moden art galleries than on restaurant walls, the likes of Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg and Marina Abramovic have all created work on the porcelain cups and they will be on show in the exhibition.

Coffee and art
Bringing together coffee and art, surely a marriage made in heaven or Italy, the coffee cup exhibition also includes not just famous name artists but contributors to the worlds of music and film too. David Byrne, Francis Ford Coppola, Frederico Fellini and Pedro Almodovar have also painted their own Illy cups. The illy Art Collection isn't just all about famous names though, as several lesser known artists and students have been included in the process over the years, meaning their will be plenty of undiscovered talent also on show.

The the illy Art Collection coffee cup exhibition takes place from 11.30am - 11pm Monday - Saturday, 11.30am - 10.30pm Sunday, from Thursday 1st July - Sunday 31st July 2010 at Strada, Brunswick Centre. Entrance is free.
