South Bank will be alive with activity during the Coin Street Festival, with a number of vibrant events planned for the summer. Londoners can enjoy a summer of music, entertainment, art, sport and more in a huge series of free events and activities.

Free summer festival
The Coin Street Festival events on the South Bank will be overflowing with the sound of music this summer, with musicians and performers putting on a big show for free to entertain the crowds. Expect to see artists from around the world and across a wide range of genres and styles clamouring for your attention, and there'll be plenty of interactive fun with music and dance workshops for kids too.

Celebrating Sanctuary
Celebrating Sanctuary is a unique showcase of talent from established and emerging artists based in London’s refugee communities, being held in support of Refugee Week. The event serves the dual purpose of highlighting the plight of those fleeing persecution whilst presenting an eclectic range of live performances, providing a platform for artists in London. Workshops will also be taking place for visitors to get creative on the day. Celebrating Sanctuary takes place on Sunday 14th June from 2pm - 7pm.

Music at Celebrating Sanctuary
Featuring some of the best in world music, there's plenty of live performances to see and hear for free at the Celebrating Sanctuary Coin Street Festival event for 2009. Energetic Serbian Roma Roots Rockers Kal will headlining the event, and UK female hip hop act Poetic Pilgrimage will also be performing on the main stage. The massive Yurt at the festival will be playing host to contemporary literature and acoustic music, and you can also catch some dance from around the world at the third stage in the Sunken Gardens.

Colombianamente
Celebrating the music and spirit of Colombia, the Colombianamente hits the Coin Street Festival for one day of music, acting, circus shows, dancing and marching bands. Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Colombia with artists, craft stalls and authentic food and drink. There will be plenty of fun for kids too, with creative family workshops for all. Colombianamente takes place from 1pm -7pm on Sunday 19th July.

Colombianamente headliners
Headlining the 2009 Colombianamente event will be La-33, a 12 piece salsa band originating from Bogata's 33rd Street. Expect plenty of salsa and boogaloo from La-33, designed to get your hips swinging and feet tapping.

Thames Festival
The Mayor's Thames Festival is back for another year, with a huge outdoor celebration right on the River Thames. Celebrate London and the 12th birthday of the festival with street art, pyrotechnics, music, a carnival and much more. The festival takes place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge.Coin Street Festival events are taking place during the summer of 2009 in and around Bernie Spain Gardens on the South Bank, next to Oxo Tower Wharf.
