Covent Garden Piazza

The 2011 Covent Garden Christmas lights are a stunning light installation courtesy of United Visual Artists. With a big Christmas light switching on ceremony and a series of free events taking place throughout the Christmas period, Covent Garden will be just as festive as ever for 2011.

Lights installation at Covent Garden
Once again the Covent Garden Christmas lights will transform the area around the Covent Garden Piazza and Market Building with a stunning installation from the United Visual Artists. Covent Garden is famed for its festive lighting extravaganzas and past achievements from the United Visual Artists have included a series of giant chandeliers, which were as far away from traditional Christmas lights as you could possibly expect. This year, the festive light display is just one of the eyecatching elements of the Covent Garden Christmas fun.

Switching on event
The lights are being turned on for the festive season with great fanfare, in a switching on ceremony that includes live entertainment and festive fun galore. The crowds will be treated to a fantastic light display right in the heart of Covent Garden, and a well as the lights by UVA, there will also be a traditional Christmas tree, giant red baubles and a 32ft topiary reindeer on show. Also new for 2011 is a digital nativity scene installation that shifts and changes throughout the day.

Song and dance in the piazza
Covent Garden Piazza and the surrounding Covent Garden area is centre stage once again for a number of live performances and events throughout the festive period. Alongside the Christmas lights, Covent Garden is showcasing various different live entertainment and cultural shows that are set to wow Londoners of all ages. So visitors really can expect some serious festive fun in the heart of Covent Garden.

Christmas at Covent Garden

Stunning setting
The Covent Garden Christmas lights switch on is taking place with as much fanfare as in previous years. The cobble stoned piazza is set to be transformed into a Christmas paradise by some of the world's most impressive light installation designers. This will then be the perfect place to showcase all the fantastic events that are set to take place in a true winter wonderland.

Festive fun at Covent Garden
Christmas 2011 sees the Real Food Market selling festive fare such as roasted chestnuts, fresh gingerbread and warm mulled wine in the run up to the big day itself. From luxury Christmas cakes to hand made chocolates and award winning stilton, you're bound to be able to find gourmet Christmas food that suits your tastes, with the chance to get into the spirit of the season and sample yuletide fun and treats in lively surroundings.
