Rare performance
Bringing the rarely performed Shakespeare play to the stage once more, the production of Cymbeline at Barbican is one of the more unusual events of the World Shakespeare Festival. Japanese director Yukio Ninagawa is renowned for his revisions of Shakespearean classics and Greek tragedies, and has previously infused plays such as Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Henry VI and King Lear with Japanese cultural influences.

Festival event
The Ninagawa Company's production of Cymbeline at Barbican is part of the World Shakespeare Festival, which sees performances take place across London and the UK in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The production at the Barbican Theatre is performed in Japanese with English subtitles, adding an international element to the celebrated words of The Bard.

King of Britain
A complex and hard to define late play by Shakespeare, the production of Cymbeline at Barbican retells the story of an ancient king of Britain and his daugher, Imogen. With plotting queens, lost sons, jealous husbands, Roman battles, prophecies and characters in disguise, there should be plenty of action on stage to enjoy.

Cymbeline at Barbican runs from 7.15pm, Tuesday 29th May - Saturday 2nd June 2012. Tickets cost £16.00 - £50.00. For more information and to buy tickets, call the box office on 020 7638 8891.
