Dance Umbrella at Barbican

Take part in a dance marathon and watch a series of special performances during Dance Umbrella at Barbican, when the celebrated arts venue hosts events as part of the city-wide dancing festival.

Lucinda Childs Dance Company
Highlights of the Dance Umbrella at Barbican events include a special performance by members of the Lucinda Childs Dance Company, which recreates the groundbreaking collaboration of 1979 between choreographer Lucinda Childs, composer Philip Glass and visual artist Sol DeWitt. DANCE combines abstract choreography with black and white film projections and a minimalist score, and the performances anticipate the 2012 production of the Einstein on the Beach opera, which also includes choreography from Lucinda Childs.

DANCE by the Lucinda Childs Company runs from 8pm, Tuesday 18th October - Saturday 22nd October 2011. Tickets cost £16.00 - £34.00.

Dance marathon
For dance fans who want get involved with all the action during the Dance Umbrella at Barbican festival, there's the chance to get your best glad rags on and head out onto the floor for the dance marathon. Taking its inspiration from the American endurance events of the 1920s and '30s, the dance marathon features a live band and invites both novices and experienced dancers to learn new steps from the floor judges, before the last couple standing are crowned champions.

The dance marathon takes place from Thursday 13th October - Sunday 16th October 2011. Tickets cost £25.00.

Last chance to see
Other events taking place as part of the Dance Umbrella at Barbican festival include the last chance to see the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in their final London season. The performances bring together six cutting edge dances to showcase the company's collaborations with artists such as John Cage, Brian Eno and Andy Warhol.

The Merce Cunningham Dance Company performances take place from 7.45pm, Wednesday 5th October - Saturday 8th October 2011. Tickets cost £16.00 - £42.00.
