The Londoner's Guide to London
Marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of the legendary explorer and missionary, the David Livingstone exhibition London event will present visitors with a series of extremely rare photographs, personal items and other artefacts.
David Livingstone exhibition
London’s Brunei Gallery will stage this celebratory affair, no doubt providing a great space for these unique, history-filled artefacts that help to provide a portal into what life would have been like for the visionary figure. Famous and controversial in near equal measure, Dr Livingstone paved the way for many future explorers as he helped discover many previously unknown parts of Africa and beyond.
Multi faceted character
The David Livingstone exhibition London event will highlight how the Scottish born pioneer is one of the best known British explorers ever as a number of significant items will go on display including maps, photographs and even a set of surgical instruments. The great man was also famous as a missionary, and as a devout Christian he preached his way through much of Africa, educating thousands on his beliefs, thus creating a legacy that will live on for many hundreds of years to come.
Life and afterlife
One of the main aims of the exhibition is to look at and dissect the life and legacy of David Livingstone through the many artefacts and historical material found in the missionary archives of the SOAS Library. A particular focus will be placed on his early missionary years from 1840 – 1856, and a number of his relationships with key African figures will also be explored fully, in an attempt to further learn about the great man himself, so head to the David Livingstone exhibition London event and you won’t be disappointed.
The David Livingstone exhibition London event takes place from 10.30am – 5.00pm, Tuesday 22nd October 2013 until Saturday 22nd March 2014 at the Brunei Gallery. Admission is free.
