Recreating the death of Peter Fechter in Germany in 1962, artist S Mark Grubb will take his audience on a trip to an unspecified location in London to stage his re-enactment of the event. A renowned artist who lectures at the Nottingham Trent University, this re-staging is part of an ongoing project for S Mark Grubb who will be filming the event for a discussion evening at the ICA later this year.

The story behind the death of Peter Fechter is one of teenage tragedy. In August 1962 Peter and his friend Helmut jumped from the ground floor window onto the Death Strip, an area of no mans land that surrounded the Berlin wall. Despite orders from the GDR guards to halt, they continued to climb the wall and Helmut made it over. Peter however was shot and seriously wounded.

See what happened to Peter and exactly how he died in this moving and emotionally raw re-enactment somewhere in London on 18th August. If you would like to book tickets for the Death of Peter Fechter, phone the ICA on 020 7930 3647 for more information. The audience will be taken by bus from the ICA to the unspecified site and returned by the same method at approximately 3pm.
