Deckchairs at Trafalgar Square

Put on your coolest sunnies and slip into one of the deckchairs at Trafalgar Square in preparation for a season of quirky live performances. Taking its inspiration from the weird and wonderful end of pier entertainment that can traditionally be found by the British seaside, the Mayor of London's One Magic Summer festival is transforming the iconic central London landmark into a family friendly hotspot for the summer staycation crowd.

One Magic Summer
With tongue in cheek tennis games, Bollywood dancing and beach huts too, the One Magic Summer festival promises plenty of left field entertainment for all ages. As well as the programme of unusual performances and events, there will also be deckchairs at Trafalgar Square throughout the festival, so you can kick back, relax, and take in all the sights and sounds central London has to offer.

Sit back and relax
Feel like taking a break from work or sightseeing? The deckchairs at Trafalgar Square will be available daily from 10am - 8pm from Monday 17th August - Monday 31st August 2009. Giving you the chance to soak up some summer sun even if you haven't managed to book a holiday to more exotic climes this year, you can bring a book or chat with friends while relaxing in a deckchair, that classic piece of seaside furniture.

Live entertainment
As well as the deckchairs at Trafalgar Square, a number of live performances are also taking place as part of One Magic Summer, including It's a Kind of Magic by Markmark Productions featuring illusions, magic tricks and a range of power ballads from the 1980s. You can also have a chat to the talkative Bill and Vera next to their beach hut and 1950s camper van, and bump into a group of lost ramblers played by members of Comic Character Creations.

Bank holiday fun
The end of the One Magic Summer events coincide with the August bank holiday, and there are plenty of events to keep the crowds entertained over the long weekend. There are acrobatic dances and theatre works from Mibre, Bollywood dancing from British Asian company Nutkhut, and comedy from The Unfit Athletes fun runners.

The deckchairs at Trafalgar Square are available daily from 10am - 8pm, Monday 17th August - Monday 31st August 2009. Performances take place from 12pm - 2pm and 5pm - 7pm Thursday - Sunday and on the bank holiday Monday. All events are free to attend.
