Celebrating the work of two of the most influential Russian avant garde artists, the major exhibition titled Rodchenko & Popova: Defining Constructivism at the Tate Modern explores how these key figures shaped Russian art in the twentieth century and beyond.

Defining Constructivism at Tate Modern
Starting in 1917 with the October Revolution, the Rodchenko & Popva: Defining Constructivism Tate Modern exhibition follows the art and working relationship of Aleksandr Rodchenko and Liubov Popova, two influential artists who rejected the notion of art for art's sake, and used their art to contribute to the politcal, social and culutural revolution in Russia.

Rodchenko and Popova
With over 350 objects, including striking geometric images such as Popova's Paintly Architechonic of 1918, pictured, Defining Constructivism at the Tate Modern follows the artist's careers through phases in abstract painting, graphic design, advertising, costume designs and books. Sculptures, theatre set designs, and posters are also exhibited.

Exhibition highlights
Highlights at the Rodchenko and Popova exhibition include iconic works such as the posters designed for Sergei Eisenstein's seminal film Battleship Potemkin, originally released in 1925. There are also pieces from the pair's influential 1921 exhibition 5x5=25.

The Rodchenko and Popova: Defining Constructivism at Tate Modern exhibition runs from Thursday 12th February - Sunday 17th May 2009. Gallery opening times are 10am - 6pm Sunday - Thursday, and 10am - 10pm Friday - Saturday.

Ticket prices for the exhibition are £9.80 for adults, and £7.80 for children aged 12-18. To book tickets in advance, call 0207 887 8888.
