Have you ever been to a London club and groaned at the frankly crap music incessantly pumping out of the speakers? Wish you could rip off your own ears as another cheesy pop tune plays? That’s where Desert Island Disco at Amersham Arms comes in. The Amersham Arms hosts this regular Friday event to get punters interacting with the atmosphere. Anyone can sign up to choose five records of their choice to play on the evening. The only requirement is the songs are good or interesting. It doesn’t have to be perfectly mixed or even ‘banging’. The big no-no is any Girls Aloud track. Or Westlife.

Cheap as Chips
As with most of the events at the popular South London watering hole, Desert Island Disco at Amersham Arms is a dirt cheap club night. Free to get in before 10pm, if you do arrive late then it will cost you the grand total of one English pound. That’s less than a cup of coffee. Cocktail offers are on all night and the ‘DJ’ gets a free drink. Can’t be bad.

Amersham Arms Rocks New Cross
Before the Amersham Arms came onto the scene, New Cross wasn’t exactly the coolest of late night spots. Although it looks like any local pub from the front it hides a 350-capacity club space and even the Take Courage art gallery upstairs. So cool it doesn’t even have to try.

Cool Crowd
Whereas places like Shoreditch are becoming old hat and genuine trendies are being driven out by try hards, places like New Cross are thriving. The Amersham Arms pulls in a genuinely laid back crowd of up for it party animals looking to escape the overpriced entry fees of some of the capital’s superclubs. Desert Island Disco at Amersham Arms is no different.

Desert Island Disco at Amersham Arms is a weekly event that takes place from 8pm-3.30am every Saturday. Entry is free before 10pm, £1 after.
