Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 60 years on the throne in 2012 and to mark the occassion several prestigious events are taking place around the capital. With many details still under wraps, apart from the extra bank holiday, the one place you can be sure will be getting into the spirit of celebration is Buckingham Palace itself, with an exhibition simply entitled Diamonds.
Diamonds are forever
Renowned for their associations with love, endurance and for being the hardest natural substance known to man, what better object could be used to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee than the diamond. On show in this Diamond Jubilee celebration exhibition are a series of fanastic jewels that been used to decorate regalia, bought for personal use or simply inheirited in the passing down of gifts from previous generations of royals.
200 years of bling
Including an unprecendented number of personal pieces of diamond jewellery owned by the Queen, the Diamond Jubilee celebration exhibition is sure to catch the eye of anyone with a passion for ice. Amongst the symbols of sovereignity and precious gifts, the exhibition is showcasing many of Queen Elizabeth's own jewels that have been given as gifts or acquired during her reign. Many of the stones on show have undergone various transformations as they have been re-cut and re-set during their time in the royal collection.
Diamonds, the Diamond Jubilee celebration exhibition takes place from Saturday 30th June - Sunday 8th July and from Tuesday 31st July - Sunday 7th October 2012 as part of the summer opening of Buckingham Palace.
