Charles Dickens bicentenary
Born in 1812, Charles Dickens became one of the best loved and widely read novelists of the Victorian age, and two hundred years after his birth he still holds a unique position in popular culture. The Dickens 2012 festival celebrates the life and times of the man himself, and also revisits some of his most iconic works, from Great Expectations and Oliver Twist to Little Dorrit and A Christmas Carol. Although Dickens' 200th birthday falls on 7th February 2012, events to celebrate the anniversary are taking place throughout the year.
