Atmospheric and distinctly dark, no wonder Camden loves this great venue.

The Venue
Hidden behind the Stables Market in Camden Town, under Lock 17 lies one of North London’s favourite live venues. Also hosting Jongleurs Comedy nights, Dingwalls is not in any way grand. It has a low-ceiling and three tiered sections that rise from stage level at the front to the bar at the back.

The Atmosphere
As a live music venue, the atmosphere in Dingwalls is always vibrant, but the variation in acts that perform here can influence the type of crowd that comes along. The surroundings are always dimly lit, the only lighting being found by the stage and bar during performances, which gives an intimate feel. There’s also a varied seating plan - on comedy or acoustic-jazz evenings there are more seats and tables available, which are cleared away for livelier nights.

The Music
The acts that play at Dingwalls vary widely from acoustic-folk to Indie-rock and even jazz bands on occasion. this place is particularly popular with lesser-known bands and solo artists looking to be signed or those on their first tour, as the capacity and atmosphere can make it seem busier than it really is. As a music venue it covers its bases well. The intimacy is ideal for acoustics, while the sound technicians have worked hard (and successfully) to avoid the inevitable reverb from heavier beats in a small venue.

The Drink
The large bar at the back of the room is well stocked with a broad selection of beers, wines and spirits, although Dingwalls does charge club prices for these. For example, a bottle of Corona, which is poured into a plastic cup and adorned with a lime wedge, costs £3.25. The waiting times are club-like also, and it is advisable to be quick to the bar when the act goes to interval, or risk not making it back to your spot for the opening of the second half.

The Last Word
Dingwalls is a great venue for all kinds of live music and entertainment. On a smaller scale to the nearby Roundhouse, it is ideal for followers and performers alike.
