An exhibition on Drawing Fashion at Design Museum takes place to celebrate fashion illustration from the 20th and 21st centuries. Featuring the work of much loved and lauded designers, the exhibition revels in the glamour and style of decades worth of fantastic fashion.
Drawing Fashion at Design Museum
Reflecting the spirit and design aesthetics of various different eras, the drawings on show in the exhibition bring together fashion from the likes of Chanel, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Lacroix and McQueen amongst others. Charting the changes in fashion and design over the years, not just in the garments but also in the way that they are illustrated, this is your chance to witness a unique collection of stunning images.
Artists v designers
Showcasing not only the creativity and skill of the designers but the illustrators too, much of the work on show in Drawing Fashion at Design Museum marks the overarching feel of its time. With illustrations from periods including Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Pop Art, the show celebrates the popular designers of the day and the artists that have recreated their collections on paper. From the days when illustration was used in advertising pre photography to the present day where illustrators can provide a unique representation of a designers look, the exhibition challenges the notion that photography is the only way to show fashion as an image.
High fashion and couture
For those that have a true passion for high fashion and couture design, this is a truly exciting exhibtion. Taking a closer look at the artistic ways in which garments are represented, fashion lovers are able to indulge themselves not only in the stunning collection of drawings, but in film clips, news reels, music and photography as well. Whether you have heard of the likes of Lepape, Gruau, Antonio and Mats Guatafson before you attend Drawing Fashion at Design Museum, their striking illustrations will no doubt mean you remember their names for a while to come.
Drawing Fashion at Design Museum takes place from 10am - 5.45pm, Wednesday 17th November 2010 - Sunday 6th March 2011.
Tickets are £8.50, £6.50 for concessions or £5.00 for students. Children under 12 are free.
