An exhibition of work by Eadweard Muybridge at Tate Britain takes place in winter 2010 and 2011, bringing together a vast catalogue of his photos from the early days of the art being developed. A major retrospective, this exhibition features a stunning collection of his images, amongst them some of the most famous from the 19th century.

Eadweard Muybridge at Tate Britain
Having created some of the most iconic images in early photography history Eadweard Muybridge has become a name synonymous with motion photography and capturing the essence of human and animals on the move. Most famous for his pictures of race horses, this is a chance to photography fans to see up close his timeless images.

Motion and illusion
Two of the most famous selections of images to appear in the exhibition by Eadweard Muybridge at Tate Britain include the Attitudes of Animals in Motion from 1878, and the Animal Locomotion sequence from 1887. These photos captured various animals, including horses in full flight. These images were then placed in sequence in his own zoopraxiscope device to create the illusion of a galloping animal to viewers.

Panoramic landscapes
Asides from the iconic images of man and animals in motion, Eadweard Muybridge was also renowned for taking photos of the American landscape. Fascinated by the natural beauty of the continent to which he had moved from Britain, he also aimed to document the modernisation of towns and cities. Photos from his days in the Yosemite Valley, Alaska, Guetmala, San Francisco, California, Nevada and Utah are all included in the exhibition of Eadweard Muybridge at Tate Britain.

The exhibition by Eadweard Muybridge at Tate Britain takes place from 10am - 5.50pm, Wednesday 8th September 2010 - Sunday 16th January 2011. Tickets are £10.00 or £8.50 for concessions.
