Celebrate the end of Ramadan with the Trafalgar Square Eid Festival. London welcomes the return once more of the light festival after its successful inaugural outing last year.

A traditional Muslim festival that ends a month of fasting is observed by millions of people all over the UK and thousands of Londoners. Organised by the Muslim Council of Britain the Eid festival, Eid in the Square, is a chance for everyone to join in the celebrations and enjoy the theme of unity.

Eid ul Fitur is a special day where Ramadan comes to an end and both Muslims and non Muslims alike can come together across religious boundaries and enjoy the festivities together. Visitors to the Eid festival at Trafalgar Square can experience the cultural diversity of the day and the cultural richness of Islam, with a day of activities and events for all.

Different cultures and communities will be able to appreciate art, music and performance poetry in this special festival. Performances in the past have come from a range of live acts including Poet Pilgrimage, a female hip hop duo, Mesut Kurtis who performs songs from his first Islamic orientated album and spiritual singer Nazeel Azami who is a renowned Bengali singer and lyricist.

The Eid festival 2007 also featured comedy from Prince Abdi, who is one of the few Somalian comedians who has made his name at comedy clubs across London, like the Hackney Empire and the Comedy Store. Drumming and music came from Hussein Zaawy who learnt how to play the Def Kurdish drum at the age of three and is now a high profile player of other Kurdish instruments. You can expect more unusual and entertaining performances at the Eid festival London event for 2008.

Music and performance aside the Eid London festival will also have a street bazaar and displays about Islam in Trafalgar Square, making for an event packed day of festivity. A chance to enjoy and to appreciate all aspects of Islamic art and culture, the Eid festival is sure to be another brilliant day of celebration in the square.
