BBC Electric Proms is a huge live music festival featuring a line up of star acts over five days in October 2008. Music lovers can celebrate the best in contemporary music in a unique festival event, kicking off at a selection of venues in Camden.
Star acts in Electric PromsA selection of top acts will be taking to the stage, ready to rock out in true Electric Proms style. Previous performers have included Jamiroquai, James Brown, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Kasabian, Paul Weller and The Who, and this year looks to be just as impressive. 2008 boasts a stellar lineup with the cream of today's music scene being represented.
Who will be there?Musical genius and composer Nitin Sawhney will be bringing the London Undersound Orchestra with him to pay homage to the capital. Not to be missed. Contemporary Brit hip hop act The Streets will be performing live and new atcs like Wild Beasts and XX Teens will be proving they've got what it takes to perform with the big boys too. In addition to these there'll be a veritable feast of other live acts so expect the brilliantly unexpected.
TicketsThere's a selection of paid for gigs as well as freee gigs so if you're quick, even those without many pennies in their pockets will be able to see some quality acts. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 17th September. Tickets for the paid for gigs will also go on sale at this time and can be purchased through the Electric Proms website:
Where it's atVenues for the Electric Proms gigs have yet to be confirmed, but here are the places that rocked out last year, which maybe back on the list again for 2008:
John Peel night2006 and 2007 saw a special night devoted to legendary radio presenter and music aficionado John Peel who was remembered during a night of live music. In 2008 you can expect his musical legacy to live on with another John Peel night that takes place all over Camden, with more up and coming bands being championed at this year's Electric Proms.
Last year's Electric Proms highlightsHighlight from last years superb event saw Kaiser Chiefs play with David Arnold, and Mark Ronson perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra, both of which were amazing shows with completely different musical styles. For something completely different Bloc Party rocked out at the Roundhouse, and Sigur Ros enjoyed a premiere of Heima at the 2007 Electric Proms.
Film screeningsA programme of free film screenings will be taking place throughout the festival, adding an extra element to proceedings alongside the live music. Expect a diverse array of new music features, shorts and promos, exploring everything from rock to grime.
Special ticketsLast year a limited number of exclusive £5.00 Electric Proms tickets were available on the day for certain acts, giving latecomers the chance to get involved at the shortest possible notice. A number of free prize tickets were also available for gigs in smaller, more intimate venues, giving music fans have a chance to get in on the action in proper festival spirit.
BBC Electric Proms takes place from Wednesday 22nd October – Sunday 26th October 2008 at various venues in Camden. Standard tickets are £15.00 and a select number of £5.00 tickets are available on the day of particular events.
