Examing the world of the fast paced Formula 1, the exhibition Fast Forward at Science Museum looks at the ways in which racing car technology is influencing our everyday life.

Fast forward F1
Whether you are a fan of the likes of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton or have never driven faster than 55 miles per hour in your life, Fast Forward at Science Museum explains just how much of an influence Formula 1 racing has on your life. As the cars themselves can cost millions of pounds, huge amounts of time and energy is spent on making them as fast and as efficient as possible. And the resulting technology can quite often be adapted for other walks of life.

Speedy technology
As with new technology being developed through NASA and the space race, the same kinds of influences are now taking place through the world of Formula 1. Fast Forward at Science Museum gives you the chance to examine key parts of F1 cars and their technological counterparts in other industries. With developments affecting everything from bicycles to fishing line, the world of F1 is having a serious impact on all kinds of people.

Formula 1 for all
Some of the highlights of the Fast Forward exhibtion include an amazing selection of objects that have been inspired or developed by the F1 scientists and motor engineers. From obvious motorcar advancements like the tyre pressure checking system and special ceramic that protects cars from heat damage, to military developments with rapid refueling technology and seat designs for army jeeps. One brilliant area of development from the F1 technology is the range of medical equipment that will help people from all walks of life, such as the light weight leg brace, a monitoring system, a special Babypod for transporting sick infants and a super advanced wheelchair.

The Formula 1 exhibition, Fast Foward at Science Museum takes place from 10am - 6pm, Tuesday 3rd March 2009 - Monday 5th April 2010.
