Fathers Day is virtually upon us. And, if this takes you by surprise or you had forgotten the exact date then we’re here to tell you that June 15th is the one to remember. Often it doesn’t get anywhere near as much attention as Mothers Day – but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty going on for Fathers Day in London with which to remind your dad that he’s done a good job with you and you’re grateful.
More Fathers Day London EventsWe’ve picked a selection of events that may interest you as well as a series of our experiences that might make a great day out for the old boy. So whatever you do for Fathers Day in London, make sure you have fun.
Pants in the ParkPulling your pants on over your trousers may not seem like the most stylish way to dress but it is almost certainly mandatory for the prostate cancer charity run taking place on Fathers Day 2008. Whether you want to run with the pant-wearers or simply watch them go by, Battersea Park is the place to do it.
Doctor WhoWhich dads don't have a lingering memory of hiding behind the sofa in fear of the Daleks or nagging their Nan to knit them an extra long stripy scarf? Treat the sci fi buff (or child) in your Dad on Fathers Day with a trip to the Doctor Who exhibition at Earls Court.
Motor ExpoThe Motor Expo London is the UK’s largest free motor show and features a wide range of the world’s most recent (not to say finest) cars and bikes. Taking place from 9th to 15th June, it’s a perfect spot to visit for Fathers Day in London. There will be a number of first UK showings with all kinds of cool cars being seen on these shores for the very first time.
Cricket ExtravaganzaIf your dad is the sporting type (or just likes to escape the house) then this is an excellent event to take him to on Fathers Day. Taking place at the CSS Cricket Club, you can expect to see some excellent cricket matches between old rivals Barbados Cultural and Australia House XI with both past and present West Indian players in the team. Sit back, relax, try out some delicious Bajan food and generally enjoy the sunshine.
James BondAll men fancy themselves as being as suave as 007, and just as capable of karate chopping assasins in the back of the neck for kicks. Don't disillusion your father - take him for a day out to see just what Bond and his creator were all about at For Your Eyes Only at Imperial War Museum. Or for the more literary fathers out there, the Bond Bound exhibition at the Fleming Collection showcases all the bookcovers from the beginning of Bond's career.
Music FestivalOne of the coolest events for Fathers Day in London surely has to be the Meltdown Festival at Southbank Centre. Organised this year by the longstanding and acclaimed Massive Attack. On Fathers Day itself you can catch the Acoustic Reggae Songbook with all the biggest and best names in roots and reggae, or the pioneers of eclectropop, Yellow Magic Orchestra.
International Music ShowAnother top event for boys that love their music. Why not try inviting your Dad to rock out with you on Fathers Day? The music festival will make for a very special Fathers Day with live performances from musical celebrities, some fantastic new equipment to try out and the chance to hear music from all around the world.
Hip Hop PhotosIs your dad still down with the kids? Is he an old school playa? Take him to the Wildstyles photo exhibition at Bar Vinyl on Fathers Day for a chance to relive his hip hop roots.
Stella Artois ChampionshipThe final day of this exciting annual tennis tournament takes place on Fathers Day this year, making tickets for the 15th June 2008 very hot property. If your Dad loves his tennis, you can do no better than to treat him to a day out on the courts.
And there you have it folks - a small yet perfectly formed selection of things to do with your dad this coming Fathers Day in London.
