The Londoner's Guide to London
Take part in a free lunch of biblical proportions with the Feeding the 5000 at Trafalgar Square event. Author and anti food waste campaigner Tristram Stuart is being joined for an army of volunteers to serve up free food to thousands of hungry Londoners at the iconic central London landmark.
We all know that the run up to Christmas can be an expensive time of the year, but the Feeding the 5000 at Trafalgar Square charity event proves that you can still enjoy a slap up meal without having to empty your wallet. A number of organizations including Love Food Hate Waste and Friends of the Earth will be taking part in the event and serving up food to visitors in a feel good, festive event.
The fresh food on offer at the Feeding the 5000 at Trafalgar Square special event includes hot curry, made from fresh vegetables that would otherwise have gone to waste. There's also live cooking demonstrations by chefs such as Thomasina Myers, Valentine Warner and Arthur Potts Dawson, as well as a pig enclosure where food stock will be recycled as livestock feed.
As well as raising awareness of all the organizations taking part, the Feeding the 5000 at Trafalgar Square event aims to raise awareness on the important issue of food waste and how to make the most of our natural resources. All of the food handed out for free would otherwise have been wasted, a fact that really is food for thought given the food shortages and poverty across the world today.
Special guests at the feed the five thousand event include Mayor of London Boris Johnson. As well as all the cookery demonstrations, other highlights at the event include the chance to get involved with apple pressing.
The Feeding the 5000 at Trafalgar Square event runs from 12pm - 2pm, Friday 18th November 2011. Admission to the event is free.
