The Film 4 Fright Fest is back once again, now in it's tenth year to fill your week with scary, gory, horrific and frightening films. With several premieres and some fantastic horror flicks from all over the world to sink your teeth into, the Film 4 Fright Fest is set to be a full on festival of gore.
Bank holiday frights
Held over the August Bank Holiday, the Film 4 Fright Fest is the perfect end to the summer. With loads of fantastically scary films and some of the best classic horror movies ever to have been made for the big screen, you will be spoilt for choice. Whether it's zombies, knife wielding maniacs, monsters, ghosts, vampires, spooky murderous children or just plain old cannibals, there is something horrific and heart stoppingly unpleasant for everyone.
Special screenings
And it's not just your average blood and gore that will be screening during the Film 4 festival. You can also expect animations, sci fi and short films too. Last year, there was even a comedy take on people with more than their fair share of sexual organs that take over the body, and a woman who gives birth to mutant babies only two hours after having sex. Fright Fest really does have the weirdest and most peculiar horror films going, so check back soon to get the full line up for 2009 when it's announced.
World cinema
Films from all over the world are screening at the Empire Leicester Square cinema during the 2009 festival, including contributions from America, Scotland, Japan, Spain and South Korea. Last year's world cinema offering included Eden Lake, one the most controversial films from the UK in 2008 that took a closer look at hoodie horror; The French hoor The Broken was also screened and gave audienced a Hitchcockian take on Edgar Allan Poe style supernatural doubles; Danish horror The Substitute followed the tale of several children and their evil out of space teacher who was desperate for love; and Manhunt was the Norweigian contribution to the Fright Fest with a classic hitchhiker plotline. The 2009 programme is yet to be announced, but is bound to try to match last year for frights, thrills and chills.
Grand finale
Still not satisfied by all the blood and guts? The final day of the festival promises a grand finale of spine tingling horror. The 2008 festival bowed out with four great films and the Film 4 Fright Fest shorts showcase, where horror fans enjoyed some fantastic horror shorts with the likes of Neon Killer, a legendary and sadistic killer; The Flea, where a vampire hunter wants to stake just one more victim; a house full of very dark secrets in The Incursion; and an amusing medley of sleaze, horror, gothic plots and humour with Horrorshow.
If you want to relive some frightening memories of the 2008 Fright Fest, then check out the full listings of all the films that were shown. The 2009 programme of films and events will be released shortly, so check back soon for updates and more information.
