The Fiona Banner Duveens Commisson exhibition is taking place at Tate Britain during 2010 and is expected to be another great hit for the world renowned art gallery.

Fiona Banner Duveens Commission
Exhibitions and installations come and go at Tate Britain, but along with the Turner Prize, the Duveens Commission is one of the most controversial and most hyped. And running from June 2010 - January 2011, the latest artist invited to take up the Duveens Commission mantle is Fiona Banner.

Duveens Commission at Tate Britain
Joining a long line of acclaimed artists, the Fiona Banner Duveens Commission exhibition is set to go down in history with the likes of Eva Rothschild, Martin Creed, Mark Wallinger and Michael Landy. With each artist creating work especially for the Duveen neoclassical galleries at the Tate Britain, the revelation of the new work is always highly anticipated by the London art world with each installation.

Harrier and Jaguar
Returning to her long held obsession of fighter planes and military aircraft, the installation of Harrier and Jaguar sees the high ceilings and vast space of the Duveens Galleries taken over by a recently decommissioned Sea Harrier and a Sepecat Jaguar, both of which have seen active service. The surface of the Harrier has been removed and inscribed with feathers, making the cockpit into the eyes and the nose cone a beak. The Jaguar has also been stripped of paint and lies with its belly up on the floor, reflecting the surroundings of the gallery on its shiney surface.

Previous works
In the past Fiona Banner has created works with sculpture, performance, film, drawing and painting, meaning the Fiona Banner Duveens Commission exhibition could be a mixture of all these. Renowned for her works transcribing pornographic films, her work Mirror has also gained notoriety as it saw actress Samantha Morton read out a description of herself in the nude as written by the artist.

Challenging art
Having worked with large scale objects such as military aircraft the new Fiona Banner Duveens Commission exhibition now takes over the large spaces of the galleries like no other works before. The installation of two fighter planes, reworked with markings and depicted as if they were the animals they are named after, mean you can be sure that the eyes of the artistic community will be fixed on Tate Britain to see exactly what reactions her new works promote.

The Fiona Banner Duveens Commission exhibition, Harrier and Jaguar, takes place from 10am - 5.50pm, Monday 28th June 2010 - Monday 3rd January 2011 at Tate Britain.
