Whats On
The London Marathon is racing ever closer, and if you’re not planning on competing you can still get in on the action. Cheer on the runners as they race past famous London landmarks and be there as the very first crosses the finish line. Spectators will be able to give encouragement at points all along the race, but here’s our top picks for the Flora London Marathon viewpoints.

Greenwich Park
Head to the top of the hill at Greenwich Park to watch the racers depart from Blackheath. Be there at the start to cheer them on as they start out on one of the world’s most famous marathons. And after they’re all taken off, you’ll hopefully have a nice sunny day to enjoy as you explore the rest of the park. Nearest DLR: Cutty Sark and Greenwich.

Cleopatra’s Needle
Make your way to Cleopatra’s Needle to see the runners as they pace themselves for the final leg of the race. The monument is one of the Flora London Marathon viewpoints that’s a great place to meet your friends and make sure you don’t get lost in the crowd, and you’ll also get some amazing views of the Thames. Nearest tube: Embankment.

The London Eye
Famous for its amazing views of London, the London Eye is a top spot to see practically all of the London Marathon as it happens. Watch the race from one of the air conditioned capsules and see how far the leaders are from the runners that are brining up the rear. You can experience nearly all of the marathon without having to worry about crowds – although unfortunately you can be guaranteed a queue. Nearest tube: Waterloo.

St James’s Park
Be there to see the magical moment when the first person crosses the finish line – a guaranteed momentous occasion. This is one of the Flora London Marathon viewpoints that’s guaranteed to be absolutely packed, so make sure you get there as early as possible for the best view. Nearest tube: St James’s Park.

The marathon takes place on Sunday 13th April 2008 starting at Blackheath and ending at St James's Park. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early at these Flora London Marathon viewpoints and other spots along the race.
