The Food Glorious Food exhibition London event celebrates the last 100 years of food and the way it has changed our society. Bringing back memories of eating your greens and school dinners, kids and family alike will be able to get hands on with exhibts, explore what was put on our plates in the old days and get to grips with the process from farm to shop.

Food Glorious Food exhibition
London is one of the most gastronomically inclined cities in the world, with thousands of restaurants all making food from every kind of background and culture. Now you can celebrate the ways in which we grow, prepare, cook and eat food in the Museum of Childhood's exciting exhibition, which uses exhibits from the British Library's oral history archive to take a look back at how things have changed over the last century.

Historical eating
Examining interviews with people from the past 100 years, the Food Glorious Food exhibition looks at the influences of rationing, the postwar expansion of foods from around the world, and the current reaction against fast food and focus on nutrition. From the Edwardians to the Second World War, and from postwar to the 1980s, British food goes under the microscope to be examined for flavour, nutrition, cultural significance and healthy values. Linking the nation's changing relationship with food to the wider concerns of its age, the exhibition sheds light on the historical differences in how, what and why we eat what we do.

Exhibition highlights
Kids can get to grips with all kinds of exciting and interactive exhibits as part of the Food Glorious Food exhibition, with displays of historic kitchen equipment, unusual recipes and labour saving gadgets. The museum's larder is fully stocked with foodie stories, nostalgic packaging and there will even be a chance to have a dig in the vegetable patch play area. Visitors are also invited to share their own food memories and favourites in the Food Forum, where British Pathe archive screens vintage footage relating to growing, cooking and eating.

Hands on events
To kick start the exhibition, two exciting kids events take place on Saturday 29th January 2011, with chocolate truffle making and a chance to sing along to the classic songs from Oliver! the musical. The chocolate making takes place every 30 minutes from 10.30am and costs £5.00. Have a vocal warm up from 1pm, before joining in with the orphans singing Food Glorious Food and the rest of the songs, from 2pm - 5pm, for free.

The Food Glorious Food exhibition London event takes place from 10am - 5.45pm. Saturday 29th January - Sunday 8th May 2011 at Museum of Childhood. For more information on the exhibition events phone 020 8983 5200.
