The Forever 27 exhibition brings together the five most famous members of this infamous musicians club in an exhibition that examines their huge contribution to the music world and the tragedies of their untimely deaths. With a diverse collection of these iconic rock and roll stars, who all died at the age of 27, the Forever 27 exhibition presents a definitive look at the most unusual of members' clubs.
The Forever 27 Club centres around a group of five famous musicians that all died in tragic or mysterious circumstances when they were aged 27. More than 30 musicians make up the 27 Club altogether, but the Forever 27 exhibition focuses on these iconic faces who the world sees as ill fated rock stars, whose talented live were cut short at a very early age.
Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones and Kurt Cobain are the stars of the exhibition at Proud Galleries, as the show features iconic and many as yet unseen images of these young rock and rollers. Celebrating their musical talent and shedding fresh light on their lives and untimely deaths, the Forever 27 exhibition is a touching tribute to the musicians brought together by their spookily coincidental death-age.
The most famous members of the 27 Club were all popular musicians, at the height of the musical creativity and fame at the time of their deaths. Brian Jones who was one of the founder members of the Rolling Stones, who was found drowned in a swimming pool in 1969; Jimi Hendrix was a legendary guitarist who overdosed on sleeping pills in 1970; folk singer Janis Joplin overdosed on heroin months later; Jim Morrison, the frontman from The Doors, died in unexplained circumstances in 1971; and most recently Kurt Cobain, singer and songwriter for Nirvana, killed himself with a shot gun in 1994.
Photos of the rock and roll stars included in the Forever 27 exhibition also pay tribute to some of the greatest music photographers who captured the images at the time. Philip Townsend, Elliot Landy, Jill Gibson and Steve Double are just some of the artists who have taken photos of these iconic stars, some not long before their deaths shocked the music world.
A must see exhibition for anyone with a love of rock and roll, and who was a fan of any of the artists featured in the show, the Forever 27 exhibition pays tribute to their talent and ultimately questions the ways in which fame and notoriety affect the musicians whom we idolise so much.
The Forever 27 exhibition runs at Proud Camden until Sunday 12th October 2008.
