An exhibition by Francis Alys at Tate Modern takes place during summer 2010 as the experimental artist showcases his work from over the last twenty odd years. Including painting, installations, animation, sculpture and video art, this exhibition is set to explore the nature of this politically motivated conceptual artist.

Francis Alys at Tate Modern
Combining a major retrospective of his past work with a selection of new pieces created recently, the exhibition by Francis Alys at Tate Modern invites you to enter the world of Alys and attempt to look at the political and contentious through new eyes.

Multi media
Basing his artworks on subjects such as border issues and economic crises, much of the work included in the show by Francis Alys at Tate Modern includes themes based around South America, as he moved there in the mid 1980s. Inspired by life in Mexico City which is where Alys still lives, he has created many large scale pieces of art based on the geography of various South American landscapes.

Moving mountains
Two of his best known artworks include the Paradox of Praxis, which saw the artist pushing a large block of ice around Mexico City until it melted, and Faith Moves Mountains, which involved 500 Peruvians taking shovelfuls of sand from one spot to another to move an entire sand dune. On show in the exhibition by Francis Alys at Tate Modern you can see art based on his Mexican projects, and others that have taken place in Lima, Jerusalem, Panama and London.

The exhibition by Francis Alys at Tate Modern takes place from 10am - 6pm, Tuesday 15th June - Sunday 5th September 2010. Tickets cost £10.00 or £8.50 for concessions.
