See the world premiere of the Danny Boyle directed Frankenstein at National Theatre, when Mary Shelley's ground breaking novel comes to life on stage.

Danny Boyle
He might be better known for hit British films such as Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire, but for his latest project Danny Boyle is laying down his camera and directing action on the stage rather than the screen, at the world premiere of Frankenstein at National Theatre. A brand new play by Nick Dear based on the influential novel by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein brings the gothic and romantic together in a classic tale.

Early science fiction
Touching as it does upon concerns about scientific responsibility and human control over nature, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is regarded by many to be one of the first examples of science fiction. Nick Dear's new adaptation of Frankenstein at National Theatre keeps many of the thrilling and dramatic elements of the original story, which sees an innocent but physically grotesque creature cast out by his maker, only to face further rejection by an indifferent and often cruel world.

Alternating roles
As well as being directed by Danny Boyle, the adaptation of Frankenstein at National Theatre stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, who will alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. Jonny Lee Miller is reunited with Danny Boyle after his turn as Sick Boy in Trainspotting, while Benedict Cumberbatch appears on stage fresh from his success as Baker Street's most celebrated detective in the TV adaptation, Sherlock.

Frankenstein by National Theatre, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, runs from Saturday 5th February - Sunday 17th April 2010. Please note that this production is suitable for those aged 15 and over.
