Free food at Trafalgar Square is the main event of the day this November as chefs and volunteers serve up a massive free lunch to all comers in the spirit of giving.

Feeding the 5000
The free food at Trafalgar Square is being given out in the style of the feeding of the 5000 by Jesus and his disciples, where bread and fish were handed out to the poor and the hungry. This biblical style recreation should see thousands of Londoners turn up for the free food which is being held to demonstrate against food wastage in this and other developed countries.

No such thing as a free lunch?
Leading anti food waste campaigner Tristram Stuart is setting out to prove this old adage wrong with his free food at Trafalgar Square event. Tonnes of donated fresh fruit and vegetables from farms, packers and markets that would otherwise have been thrown out for being a funny shape or a bit too small are being delivered to the Trafalgar Square where it will be then be transformed in a delicious free lunch.

Curry for all
An army of volunteers trained in food handling will prepare the food, and serve it up on the day. The vegetables are set to be turned into a delicious curry, and if you need to work up an appetite beforehand, there's the chance to take part in some apple pressing at the event. So if you fancy some free food on Friday 18th November, you know where to go.

Charities against food waste
As Christmas is a time for giving, charities often try to remind people that there are plenty of people out there less fortunate than ourselves, and the lunchtime free food at Trafalgar Square is all part of a timely campaign to reduce food wastage. With Love Food Hate Waste and Friends of the Earth amongst the organizations taking part, you know that this event is doing its bit to raise awareness of food waste.

Famous faces
Putting their stamp of approval on the Feeding the 5000 event are top chef Thomasina Miers, Valentine Warner and Arthur Potts Dawson, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and several others from the civic and spiritual world, who will be appearing to remind us all that we can do our bit to help save food resources and banish hunger from many parts of the world. There's also a pig enclosure where food scraps will be recycled as livestock feed.

Feeding the 5000 with free food at Trafalgar Square takes place from 12pm - 2pm on Friday 18th November 2011.
