Free Running at Trafalgar Square

Get your tickets to see some world class athletes demonstrate their parkour skills at the free running at Trafalgar Square event. The second annual Barclaycard World Free Running Championships are due to take place at the famous London location on Saturday 15th August 2009, and a number of free tickets are available for fans who want to see all the action up close and personal.

27 free runners representing 17 countries from around the world will be battling it out at the free running at Trafalgar Square event, which will see the iconic London square transformed into an urban landscape full of obstacles and structures for the parkour performers to use in their routines. There's space for 7,000 spectators as well, so if you want to see the Barclaycard World Free Running Championships live, then make sure you book early.

History of parkour
While free running has been around for a while, it's only within the past few years that it's entered mainstream culture and found a wider audience. Originating from France where it's known as parcours or parkour, free running encourages its followers to negotiate their way through the urban environment in the straightest and smoothest possible manner. Expect to see plenty of twists, jumps, leaps and turns at the free running at Trafalgar Square event, as the parkour masters use all of the structures at their disposal to move about in a way that's anything but pedestrian.
