Freerunning at Roundhouse

See some stunning freerunning at Roundhouse in September 2008 as the World Freerunning Championships come to town. Bringing twenty of the very best freerunning experts to London to compete in this unusual challenge, the night of freerunning at Roundhouse is sure to be an amazing spectacle of urban sport.

Freerunning has been around for a while now, having been formed in France back in the nineties. Known as parcours or parkour in French, freerunning has been commonly recognised in London more and more often since the Jump London documentary in which was aired in 2003. Comprising the athletic ability of a gymnastic with the accuracy and skill of a climber, you can see a great night of the world's best freerunning at Roundhouse on Wednesday 3rd September.

Nowadays freerunning is an instantly recognisable urban sport; making the most of the truly urban environment, freerunners climb, leap and bound over obstacles on the urban landscape in the most effiicient and least time consuming way. Whereas most normal pedestrians are forced to walk around walls and buildings, freerunners will often scale their heights and leap from the top in a graceful and acrobatic fashion.

The Barclaycard Freerunning World Championships will see twenty of the best freerunners in the world competing for the title of World Champion. Performing their own athletic routines to an individually chosen piece of music, the competitors will leap, twist, bound, bounce and spring their way around the urban obstacles on stage in a bid to impress the judges.

Judged on their abilities, their skill, the complexity of their moves, and the fluidity or flow of their performance, everyone competing in the freerunning at Roundhouse will be judged by their fellow competitors rather than some official outsiders. Making for an unusual twist to the proceedings, this unique way of judging the performances means that the guys who know how to bust the best moves will be out to impress their fellow freerunners rather than external officials.
