Please note that the Frost Fair and Bankside Winter Festival will not be taking place in 2010. Bankside will be transformed into a winter wonderland this Christmas with the sixth annual Frost Fair London festival, taking place in the run up to Christmas 2008 as part of the Bankside Winter Festival. Enjoy a full programme of festive events and activities this winter in one of London’s biggest Christmas events.

Bankside Winter Festival

Festive fun in London
The Frost Fair London event takes place in the heart Bankside, between the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre. A complete line up of festivities will bring the area alive with Christmas cheer, including everything from parades to boat races.

Family fun at the Frost Fair
The kickoff event at the Frost Fair is a Christmas lantern parade featuring 300 children from local schools. Other attractions include husky dog sledding, and live street entertainment with the kids parade, combining to create a truly festive atmosphere.

Frost Fair history
The Frost Fair has been taking place in London for several hundred years, and for those that are keen to learn more about the past, some Frost Fair guided walks will take place over the weekend. Tickets cost £5.00 and can be booked for 2.30pm on Saturday 13th or 10.45am on Sunday 14th December by emailing vf@betterbankside.co.uk.

Get involved
The Frost Fair London event features a large selection of attractions to enjoy with plenty to keep kids and adults busy. Along with the lantern parade and a river procession, a winter market will be open for some festive Christmas shopping. Special workshops give you the chance to get interactive in proper festive fashion and street theatre will be kicking off in dramatic style. Last year over 140,000 people made it out to enjoy London’s largest free winter event and this year’s Frost Fair is sure to be just as massive.

Food and drink at Frost Fair London
Visitors to the fair can chill out at the along the Thames or warm up with something hot from some of the stalls. Expect traditional Christmas fare on the menu including roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and even a hog roast.

The Frost Fair takes place at Bankside from Friday 12th December – Saturday 13th December 2008. Hours are 10am - 8pm on Friday and Saturday, and the Bankside Winter Market is open from 10am - 6pm on Sunday 14th December. Admission is free. For more information, please click on the link below.
