Funhouse at Hayward Gallery

Lovers of interactive art should check out the Funhouse at Hayward Gallery installation, which will be open to the public for free from Wednesday 20th May - Sunday 12th July 2009.

If you've always had a soft spot for the charms of fun fairs, coastal fairgrounds, amusement parks and pleasure beaches, then Funhouse at Hayward Gallery at the Southbank Centre should conjure up more than a few hazy childhood memories. The latest a series of interactive art projects in London, the installation in the Hayward gallery project space includes homages to the Hall of Mirrors, undulating floors and brightly coloured ball pits.

House of horrors?
Designed by up and coming British artist Matthew Darbyshire, Funhouse at Hayward Gallery aims to play with your sense of perception and normality. Revising the traditional fairground fun house with the design and conventions of 21st century public architecture, Funhouse should deliver a slightly disconcerting sense of the surreal along with all the brightly coloured jollity.

Interactive art
The Matthew Darbyshire Funhouse at the Southbank Centre is just one of a number of interactive arts and cultural events taking place in London over the summer.
