Head to the Tate Modern for the landmark Futurism exhibition London event, which will be the first large scale show focusing on the artistic movement in Britian for thirty years. Running until September 2009, the exhibition marks the 100 year anniversary of Futurism.

Futurism exhibition London
Marking the centenary of the publication of the Italian poet Tommaso Marinetti's 1909 book, The Founding and First Manifesto of Futurism, the Futurism exhibition London show at the Tate Modern explores the themes and methods of the Futurists, a group of artists who first emerged out of Italy in the early 20th century. The exhibition will include work such as Christopher Richard Wynne's The Arrival of 1913, pictured, as well as art by Boccioni, Carra, and Severini.

Futurism as a movement
Abandoning the art and culture of the past in order to embrace the theme of progress in the fields of industry and technology, the Futurists often depicted urban and industrial scenes with great optimism and enthusiasm. The Futurism exhibition London event features several paintings and sculptures celebrating the dynamism of cars, planes and trains that attempt to convey the speed of these relatively new forms of transport and their revolutionary impact on everyday life.

Exhibition highlights
High points of the Futurism exhibition at the Tate Modern include the 1913 Unique Forms of Continuity in Space by Umberto Boccioni, and Carlo Carra's 1913 work, Funeral of the Anarchist, Galli. The show brings together some of the works from the seminal Futurist exhibition of 1912 which began in Paris before travelling to London and a host of other cities across Europe, and will examine the impact of the original exhibition on the art world.

Futurism influences
The special exhibition at the Tate Modern will also explore the wider impact of Futurism, and look at its influences on artistic movements such as Vorticism and Russian Futurism. Londoners will have the chance to see the exhibtion when it comes to the Tate Modern, after successful showing in Paris and Rome.

The Futurism Exhibition London event runs from Friday 12th June - Sunday 20th September 2009. Standard tickets cost £12.20. Gallery opening times are 10am - 6pm Sunday - Thursday, and 10am - 10pm Friday - Saturday. To purchase tickets in advance, call 020 7887 8888.
