An exhibition that brings the Garden within Doors at Geffrye Museum examines the history of placing plants and flowers around the home for decorative purposes. Pefect for the transition into the spring and summer seasons, this floral exhibition looks to investigate the changing fashions in plants and flowers indoors.

Garden Within Doors
Geffrye Museum is in bloom this year with its latest exhibition. A Garden Within Doors examines 400 years of different plants, flowers and floral displays in its period rooms. From 1600 up to the 20th century, the displays chart the chnages in style and the natural evolution of the plant and vase styles.

Floral show
Once visitors have travelled through time, they can head to the main exhibition Garden Within Doors at Geffrye Museum. Here you will be able to get to grips with the 19th century world of flora, with displays investigating the growers, suppliers, nurseries, florists and tradesmen who were responsible for growing and placing the flowers in people's homes. Along the way visitors will see photos, paintings and drawings depicting the unusual decorative floral art that was popular at the time.

Exhibition highlights
Two of the main highlights of the exhibition are located in the period gardens, where special floral special displays demonstrate the skill and care involved in plant growing and arranging. Featuring prized blooms and theatrical displays of vibrant flowers, these special features are sure to be the focus of the exhibition A Garden Within Doors at Geffrye Museum.

Garden events
To accompany A Garden Within Doors at Geffrye Museum a series of floral inspired events will take place throughout the duration of the exhibition. Join other flower fans for a funky and festive flower workshop at 11.30am on Saturday 8th May 2010, or explore the gardens with a talk from 6pm on Thursday 20th May 2010. For more information on attending these events, phone the museum on 020 7739 8543.

A Garden Within Doors exhibition runs from Tuesday 30th March - Sunday 25th July 2010. Admission is free.
