Exquisite afternoon tea in elegant surroundings, the Georgian Restaurant is the epitome of Knightsbridge indulgence.

The Venue
Upon arrival, you’re greeted by an explosion of strange yet vivid colours such as the lavender seats and the plush carpet of mixed greens. The splendid ornate interiors remind you of the stature of this majestic and labyrinthine West London shoppers’ paradise. An optimistic and, for the most part, accurate pianist plays his way through a choice number of upbeat ditties to add that essential touch of finesse to proceedings.

The Atmosphere
The staff are so attentive and friendly and, coupled with the splendour of the location, you may find yourself seeking ways of making experiences like this one a regular occurrence. Unlike some similar venues, the refined atmosphere is welcoming, not isolating.

The Food
The afternoon tea special is around £20 and consists of a selection of sandwiches, scones and pastries of the day, all presented in traditional fashion on a three tier cake stand. The sandwiches contain Britain’s favourite fillings such as egg and mayonnaise, salmon, and cheese and pickle, all of which are fresh, delicious and a perfect precursor to the tiers above. Lady Augusta Bracknell in particular would have approved of the obligatory cucumber and cheese.

The scones on the second tier are soft and fresh, almost crumbling under the force of the knife as you spread the clotted cream across them. The scones also arrive accompanied by rose petal jam, a marvellously fragrant preserve with elegantly sweet overtones.

The third tier is an exercise in opulence but on a small scale, if such a thing is possible. It is clear that a great deal of thought goes into what appears on this top tier because in a way, they’re the stars of this little show on your table. You're presented with three miniaturised examples of the perfect dessert, baked with extraordinary precision so as not to overwhelm nor deceive you. Choices include an eclair framboise with strawberry, a rich concoction with a deep pink cream topping on the wonderfully fresh pastry, and a slice of rich chocolate cake with dark, crispy layers. The final dessert is the wild fruit tart; presented with mouthwatering immaculacy, this is a sharp and tangy experience of dark, juicy fruit and crumbling pastry which signals, with style, the end to your indulgent afternoon.

The Drink
Judging by the staff’s eagerness to top up your flamboyant teacup, this is what it’s all about. There is a variety of afternoon teas to choose from but the Georgian tea in particular is a fusion exclusive to the Georgian Restaurant and one which should not be missed. The tea retains the graceful elements of the classic English breakfast but is softer and fuller, with a gentle, yet refreshing, finish. This is a highly rewarding, beautifully brewed and scintillating tea which acts as a perfect balance to the tiers of sin which stand before you.

The Last Word
The restaurant is located within the toy department of Harrods, brimming with new gadgets, dolls and figures. However, as strange as the location may seem, it’s very fitting: the Georgian Restaurant is a treat, one designed specifically for the grown-ups.
