We have just returned from having afternoon tea at Harrods, something we'd been looking forward to for quite a while. Frankly, it was a disappointment. The best thing about the whole meal were the scones - 2 huge gorgeously soft and fluffy scones each. Otherwise, sandwiches were very mediocre - any roadside caff would do better, all you could taste was the bread - there was no 'rose-petal jelly' with the scones (as advertised on their web-site), and the 'tea-pastries' turned out to be 2 tiny slabs of cake (Sainsbury does better fruit-cake), an portion of overly rich chocolate praline tart and a choux pastry stuffed with cream (after all the clotted cream with the scones this was a bit too much). The tea itself was alright, but, again, nothing special at all. We had to ask the waiter to bring milk and lemon. They packed the 'pastries' we couldn't eat for us to take away, but, I'm not sure anyone will want them - they're sitting in the fridge looking sad and oh-so-not-appealing. Price for the privilege -£24; the web-site says its £21. I could thing of far better things to do with £72. Would have been a far better idea to have bought the scones in Harrods' food halls and had our tea at home with proper sandwiches and cakes from M&S.

I had a fantastic meal there and have since gone back for afternoon tea. the prices are very reasonable. The quality of food is very good and my waiter was very aware of wines and the dishes. When I had afternnon tea, everything was how I liked it the sandwiches were divine, my only crticism was that they only served fruit scones and i much prefer plain ones however they do the same at the Ritz and althogh the palm court is lovely the value of Harrods was far better.

I would describe my experience at the Georgian Restaurant as atrocious. We were not given a drinks menu and the standard of English spoken by the waiting staff was nowhere near average.

We were led to believe by the first waiter that we could change the type of tea later on, as he didn’t bothered giving us the menu at the beginning, but it turned out differently. Service aside, the food at Georgian Restaurant was okay and the servings were generous. However, I would not recommend this place.

As a Harrods reward card holder, I occasionally ( far too occasionally) receive offers to dine in the Georgian restaurant.

And having received an offer, I travelled, from the wilds of the south east, with my friend and namesake - the other Terry, another lover of all things, tasty, sweet, and above all, plentiful, to dine at the buffet in the Georgian Restaurant.

The restaurant is luxurious, the decor is stunning, the staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and a great piano player setting a most pleasant ambiance for an unforgettable dining experience.

But the food, is fantastic, being the finest quality with an unbelievable range of mouthwatering items on offer. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and Terry wanted a dessert not available in the buffet, and our waitress was only too helpful to see if she could get it for him - she did - and at no extra cost.

The lady who came round to enquire if all was well at table Terry, was so friendly and charming that I proposed to her, and being more sensible than foolish, she laughingly declined. Oh well, her gain is my loss!

After a mammoth three hours, we decided to brush off the cobwebs, but before we went, we were offered more coffee.

We accepted and despite already having paid, we were not charged. It was a unique and most pleasant dining experience like no other and one that lives on in my mind.

So when a second, infrequent offer arrived, we left post haste from the aforementioned wilds of Eltham and Greenwich respectively, to the Georgian restaurant and we repeated the whole thing.

Again, it was fantastic, food service, music - everything- in the words of the late great Nat King Cole - unforgettable.

And so, I now patiently await another offer as like Geoff Hurst in a world cup final, I will be looking for the hat trick. Offers Please....Marvelous!!!

I had afternoon tea in the Georgian Restaurant and I really enjoyed it. The prices were a little extortionate admittedly, but the service and atmosphere made it more than worth it! I'll be back to the Georgian definitely!
