A giant ice cube at Potters Fields is due to melt over the course of three days in February to gradually reveal a brand new Cube car inside. Launching the new Nissan Cube, which has become a cult hit in Japan, the giant ice cube is set to become a world first in ice sculpture.

Giant ice cube
Potters Fields has played host to some unusual objects in its time, to giant rugby balls to pop up roller discos. But now a giant ice cube containing a car will take up residence for three days before it melts, inviting people to interact with this unusual sculpture.

Get hands on
Featuring an interactive sensor panel on the giant ice cube at Potters Fields, the wintry sculpture will light up various parts of the car and the design on the surface when pressed by visitors. Highlighting various areas of the sculpture with lights and colour, this is a unique way for people to get involved with the ice installation.

Tattoo art
One of the most unique elements of this sculpture is the design etched onto the giant ice cubes surface. Created by celebrity tattooist Henry Hate, the picture is designed by Henry and etched onto the ice cube with special Japanese samurai chisels. The tattoo will play a vital part in the look of the giant ice cube at Potters Fields and is certain to attract a lot of attention from not only tatoo fans, but ice sculpture lovers too. Henry is famous for tattooing the likes of Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty, so you never know if they might pop down for a butchers at their tattooists own handiwork.

The giant ice cube at Potters Fields takes place from 9am Tuesday 9th February - Thursday 11th February 2010.
