Celebrating the opening of the major new Pop Life exhibition at Tate Modern, the Jeff Koons giant rabbit at Covent Garden is on display from Thursday 8th October - Sunday 11th October 2009.

Pop Life: Art in a Material World
Taking part of the Tate Modern exhibition out onto the streets for a short time, the giant rabbit at Covent Garden reflects the Pop Life show's aim to examine the relationship between art, popular culture and commerce. Held in the South Hall of the Market Building close to all the shops and markets in the Covent Garden piazza , the temporary outdoors installation by Jeff Koons celebrates the opening of the Pop Life exhibition which features more work by Koons, as well as other contemporary artists Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, and Andy Warhol.

Silver rabbit
Measuring a staggering 53 feet, or 16 metres, the giant rabbit at Covent Garden is modelled on the iconic metre high stainless steel sculpture Rabbit 1986. The large scale silver helium balloon was originally created for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2007 in New York, but will now be tethered inside the Market Building of the historic Covent Garden.

Contemporary art
While the Jeff Koons replica giant rabbit at Covent Garden is drawing the the crowds, the original stainless steel Rabbit 1986 will be on show at the Tate Modern, alongside footage of the helium balloon at the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Other highlights of the show include prints by Andy Warhol and Tracey Emin, as well as recent work by Damien Hirst and Gavin Turk's Pop 1993.

The Jeff Koons giant rabbit at Covent Garden runs from Thrusday 8th October - Sunday 11th October 2009. The giant balloon is on display in the South Hall of the Market Building. Admission is free.
