Take to the streets in September to see a herd of gorillas rampage through the streets of London in the Great Gorilla Run 2012, a charity fun run with a difference.

Fur-clad fun
The Great Gorilla Run is a 7 kilometre race through London with one major stipulation: all runners must be in full gorilla costume, so be prepared to work up a sweat for charity. This year will see around 800 fur-clad fundraisers take to the roads, sweating it out on the streets of London in the special charity race event. Entrants are provided with their very own gorilla outfits courtesy of the Gorilla Organisation, and if you enter you get to keep it to wear whenever you want.

Helping an endangered species
Not your average charity run, the Great Gorilla Run makes a very serious case for helping these seriously endangered creatures. The Gorilla Organisation benefits from your efforts in the run and works to help the people closest to the gorillas themselves. By ensuring that the local people in Africa do as little damage to the rainforest as possible, whilst still maintaining their own crops and fuel sources, the organisation can continue to make provisions for the gorillas and protect their homes.

Happy Birthday
The Great Gorilla Run celebrates its ninth birthday in September 2012. From the early days of 2003 when 400 people dressed as gorillas ran through the streets of London to the ninth annual race this year, thousands of people have now taken part in the runs, and over £1 million has been raised for gorillas. The charity has also broken a world record for the biggest gathering of people in gorilla suits, which is no mean feat.

Sightseeing in a gorilla suit
If you're of the opinion that gorillas are worth saving, and you should be, then this is certainly a good cause as there are fewer than 720 mountain gorillas left in the wild. Not only will you get to do something good and keep fit during the Great Gorilla Run, you'll also take in some of the best London sights including the South Bank and Tower Bridge, and of course, you'll get a gorilla suit. And we know you've always secretly wanted one of those.

The London gorilla race takes place on Saturday 22nd September 2012, and is open to runners aged 14 and over. Individual registration costs £80.00, or £50.00 for return runners. Participants should aim to raise at least £400.00 in sponsorship.
